The Crowning Project (2016-ongoing)
The Crowning Project is a project which crowns sculptures in a public space, especially in elementary schools. The sculptures were used as political propaganda and most of them have been removed or destroyed now, but some of them have survived from the 60s, 70s and 80s, the period of military dictatorship in Korea. The sculptures deserve the authority of a crown because of the survival and adoration they have received from the innocent minds in the past. With the coronation, I would like to drag up the past that we have tried to erase and the context of those surviving statues, which is obsolete just as the crown.
